Law 36: Disdain Things You Cannot Have: Ignoring Them Is the Best Revenge
In the world of power, there are always going to be things that you want but cannot have. This could be a promotion, a relationship, or even just a possession. When this happens, it is important to remember that the best revenge is to simply ignore the object of your desire.
This is because by acknowledging something that you cannot have, you are giving it power over you. You are making it seem more important than it really is. And the more you focus on it, the more it will control your thoughts and emotions.
Instead, it is better to simply dismiss the object of your desire. Pretend that it does not exist. This will show that you are indifferent to it, and that you are not willing to let it control you.
Of course, this is easier said than done. It takes a lot of self-control to ignore something that you want so badly. But if you can do it, you will be much better off.
Here is a simple example of how this law can be applied:
Imagine that you are working for a company, and you want to be promoted to a management position. However, you are passed over for the promotion in favor of another colleague.
If you react by becoming angry or resentful, you will only be giving your colleague power over you. You will be making them seem more important than they really are.
Instead, it would be better to simply ignore the promotion. Pretend that it never happened. This will show that you are indifferent to the position, and that you are not willing to let it control you.
By following this law, you will be able to maintain your power and control in the face of adversity. You will be able to show that you are not easily manipulated, and that you are not willing to let your emotions control you.
This is a powerful law that can be used in many different situations. The next time you find yourself wanting something that you cannot have, remember this law and try to ignore it. You will be glad that you did.
